Global power company AES pays courtesy call on President Aquino. The AES Corporation President and CEO Andrés Gluski (middle) with AES Asia SBU President Scott Kicker (left) paid a courtesy call on President Benigno Aquino III at the Malacañang Palace on Wednesday, June 4, 2014. During the call, Gluski expressed AES’ interest in investing in the country further through its commitment to pursue Battery Energy Storage as a viable ancillary service for the Philippines, which can be a possible immediate solution to address the country’s current energy situation. A Battery Energy Storage Solution (BESS) facility can be established within 18 months, provide emission-free capacity, and improve the performance and reliability of today’s power grid. A BESS facility can also potentially add between 60MW-200MW of energy to the grid, and is consistent with the government’s thrust of introducing new sources of energy. AES also expressed that it is keen on the expansion of its Masinloc Power Plant given the right market conditions.
Also present in the courtesy call were Department of Foreign Affairs Secretary, Alberto del Rosario; Department of Finance Secretary, Cesar Purisima; Department of Energy Secretary, Jerico Petilla; and Ambassador of the Republic of the Philippines to the United States of America Jose L. Cuisia, Jr. The group discussed possible avenues of critical support from the government that will push the energy industry forward.
