“Bright Minds Read” is currently being implemented in the Masinloc North and South Districts. All 43 grade 1 teachers, 18 school heads and 2 District supervisors have attended the Teachers training to improve their teacher proficiency on reading. 1,500 Grade 1 students will be benefiting from this program. All schools will be receiving 33 big story books, designed and accredited by the Department of Education in partnership with Ronald McDonald House Charities.
This Literacy project will address the lack of reading materials in public schools and will help the Masinloc North and South Districts of the Department of Education in achieving the goal of making “Every Child a reader”.
AES Philippines piloted this program in Taltal Elementary School in 2008 in partnership with the Department of Education – Masinloc North District, Division of Zambales. In 2010, the feeding program was scaled up to four times the initial number of school beneficiaries. It now benefits more than 300 malnourished or under-nourished students from the following host community schools:

Taltal Elementary School, Masinloc, Zambales
Bani Elementary School, Masinloc, Zamnbales
Taltal Elementary School, Candelaria, Zambales
The in-school feeding program aims to lessen the drop-out rate in Grades one to six by increasing their body mass and improving their stamina for daily schooling.
The Scholarship Program aims to reach out to deserving children of indigent families from the Municipality of Masinloc, Zambales. It aims to enable them to pursue college degree courses as one of the means of improving their lives and their family’s standard of living. Currently, there are 12 AES Philippines Scholars who are enrolled in Ramon Magsaysay Technological University (RMTU).
Brigada Eskwela (Schools Maintenance Week) is a nationwide voluntary effort that brings together parents, teachers, employee volunteers and other organizations to do minor repairs and clean-ups in schools prior to start of the school year. AES Philippines is supporting the Brigada Eskwela campaign in selected host public elementary schools in Masinloc.
